BMI and BDBOS are now jointly managing the LIR. By taking over the operation of the LIR “de.government”, the BDBOS has taken on another important task as part of the digitalisation strategy of the German public administration. The centralised, transparent allocation and management of Internet number resources, e.g. IP addresses, is a fundamental IT architectural decision that ensures the ability to act on the Internet and in government networks in the long term.
IP addresses are essential to enable the transport of data packets and the addressing of components connected to the networks. The addressing resources used in public administration are centrally coordinated and managed by the LIR ‘de.government’.
