BDBOS takes over the Network Management Centre of the Federal Networks together with the ALDB

Date 17/03/2021

With the handover of a further package of tasks from Deutsche Telekom Business Solutions to the BDBOS and ALDB GmbH, the takeover of the entire first-level support of the Federal Networks has been completed. An important milestone in the transition of the operation of the Federal Networks to public administration has thus been reached.

Due to the technical complexity, the handover of the Network Management Centre (NMC) was divided into two blocks: The first part, Scope 1, included the operation of the User Help Desk (UHD) outside of regular working hours and the monitoring (including verification, classification, categorisation and prioritisation) of the infrastructure of connections to the federal government's networks with regard to planned and unplanned events. Scope 1 was completed on 5 October 2020 and the UHD was handed over to the ALDB on 1 February.

Scope 2 was completed on 1 March 2021 in the presence of representatives of Deutsche Telekom Business Solutions (DTBS), the management of ALDB GmbH, BDBOS President Andreas Gegenfurtner, BDBOS Vice President Frank Buddrus and Ines Fiedler, Director as Commissioner for the Federal Networks, marking the second and final step in the transfer of responsibility for the NMC and thus the entire first-level support. Scope 2 includes remaining services in event and incident management as well as change and problem management.

Ines Fiedler said on the occasion of the handover:

“With the complete takeover of the network management centre of the Federal Networks through NMC Scope 2, we have reached another milestone towards the complete takeover of the infrastructure of the Federal Networks. We would like to thank everyone involved.”

Andreas Dannenberg, Managing Director of ALDB, commented:

“We have been operating high-security networks for over 10 years – for BOS digital radio and the Federal Networks. I am delighted that the ALDB is taking on another central role with the technical operation of the NMC.”

The takeover of the NMC is part of the transition of the operation of the Federal Networks from DTBS to the BDBOS and is accompanied by a reduction in operational support from DTBS down to a few remaining provider services of Deutsche Telekom. The BDBOS has had operational responsibility for the Federal Networks since 1 January 2019.

The Federal Networks provide a standardised and highly available network infrastructure for joint communication and use by all federal authorities. As a common basis for comprehensive, highly secure and highly available communication between federal, state and municipal IT networks, the Federal Networks will enable the complete networking of public administrations in future using the new Information Network for Public Administration platform (IVÖV). This is part of the Network Strategy 2030, as adopted by the IT Planning Council in 2018.
