Germany holds the presidency of the Group of Seven major western industrialised nations in 2022. In this capacity, the Federal Government invited the heads of state and government of the member states as well as other guests to the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen from 26 to 28 June.
To support the large-scale police operation accompanying the summit and the protest rallies, the Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio set up a special organisation (BAO) to ensure unrestricted digital radio operation. Its task was to ensure the availability of operational communication through Public Safety Digital Radio throughout the entire deployment period and to take immediate countermeasures in the event of disruptions.
The BAO worked closely with the Authorised Office (AS) Bavaria and was on site at the AS headquarters near Augsburg from 24 to 29 June for this purpose. Working in several shifts, a team from the BDBOS and the AS Bavaria ensured the operation of the Public Safety Digital Radio around the clock during this exceptional deployment. The BAO was supported by the BDBOS's own technical operator ALDB GmbH as well as other service providers who were also deployed on site.
With around 22,000 emergency personnel and over 18,000 registered terminals, this was one of the largest operational deployments in recent years. Thanks to good preparation and short-term technical, operational and organisational measures, it was possible to react promptly and effectively to changes in the operation in every situation. This ensured that the network operated smoothly throughout the entire area of operations without any user complaints, making a significant contribution to the successful organisation of the G7 Summit 2022.
Become part of our team and help us shape the future of secure and reliable communication for the government, federal administration, security and emergency services in Germany.
