The award honours Andreas Riemann’s forty years of social commitment. As a teenager, Andreas Riemann was a youth group leader in the Scouts, where he organised joint meetings for Allied and Berlin Scouts in a divided Berlin. During his 15-year stay in the conflict area of Northern Ireland, he worked as a volunteer diving instructor, bringing young people and adults from the conflicting parties together through diving and was also active in the national marine conservation research project. Since his return to Germany, he has been active in two fire brigades at the same time and is still an active member of the volunteer fire brigade today.
Andreas Riemann was born in Berlin in 1966. In 1999 he received his doctorate from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland with a thesis on the effects of radio interference on medical technology. After working in North Rhine-Westphalia, Ireland and Bavaria in the mobile communications and automotive sectors, he took over as head of the Concept and Development Department at BDBOS in September 2021 in his home city of Berlin.
